More customers than ever before choose BDR Thermea’s solutions

BDR Thermea Group posted record revenues and took further strides on sustainability in 2021.

Growth across the board in 2021; heat pump business expands by over 50%

More customers than ever before chose our solutions and services in 2021, helping to push our revenues to a record € 2.1 billion.

Our heat pump business grew by more than 50% compared to 2020, supported by market growth and expansion of our market position in all Western European countries where we offer heat pumps. Our services business also grew strongly, with increases in both turnover and the number of service contracts.

Our business performed well across the board in 2021, with growth in all our operating countries. We delivered more than 1.5 million residential boilers to customers worldwide, representing 12% growth versus 2020. We strengthened our solid market position in residential boilers in the UK, the Netherlands and Spain and continued growing strongly in most of our main markets outside Western Europe. Commercial boiler volumes increased by 10%.

Making the energy transition a reality

To better serve our customers in the fast-growing European market for heat pumps and to help us make the energy transition a reality, we last year welcomed new colleagues in Spain, when we acquired Barcelona-based manufacturer Hitecsa.

We made big steps in strategic product development last year, including introducing 24 new heat pump solutions. Heat pumps will play an important role in the energy transition as they are efficient and offer the opportunity to decarbonise heat at the point of use.

In addition, new hydrogen boiler demonstrations went live in the UK and the Netherlands, and we helped the historic commune of Châteauneuf-sur-Loire take a leap into the future with the installation of our 100% hydrogen boiler – the first of its kind in France.

We are aligned with the vision of the EU Green Deal, which targets a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. Our strategy has set clear targets for reduction of scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions and we last year signed an agreement with Climate Neutral Group to compensate unavoidable scope 1 and 2 emissions through a biogas project in Uganda. We last year set ambitions to reduce all our waste by 50% by 2025, and to make 50% of our packaging materials recyclable by 2025.

Commitment to bring the energy transition closer

The energy transition keeps gaining momentum, as people’s general concern grows about the future of our planet. And with gas market prices hitting record highs amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, energy security is top of mind inside and outside Europe. Moving away from natural gas towards more environmentally friendly ways of heating buildings and water is vital. After all, buildings account for 40% of EU energy consumption, and 36% of CO2 emissions from energy.
