Sustainable future

We care about shaping a better future. We continuously improve our business and innovate to bring the energy transition to life. We make a difference in the world of energy every day.

Innovative technologies to speed up the shift

The world needs to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. That shift has begun. Now, it needs to accelerate. Our innovative heating technologies make the energy transition a reality.

At BDR Thermea, we focus on four potential sustainable heating technologies: heat pumps, hybrids, hydrogen boilers and heat networks. These are made to run on a variety of renewable energy sources and are suitable for different types of buildings.

Our smart products are usually part of a larger system or combination of heat generators. They’re designed to operate easily with each other, such as a boiler in a hybrid set-up with a heat pump.

We work closely with gas grid providers, governments and other stakeholders to tackle the complexities of the energy transition. Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind are not always available, creating challenges such as balancing the grid and energy buffering. We develop our products with this in mind.

Heat pump vision

Heat pump technology to power a clean energy future

Heat pumps offer sustainable thermal comfort. We are committed to advancing the use and effectiveness of heat pumps and hybrid heat pumps, helping to power a cleaner energy future.

Sustainable Development Goals

Putting sustainability goals into action

With our sustainability agenda, we aim to contribute to six UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are the themes that are close to us, and where we think we can have the most impact. This is how we contribute to a better future in terms of people, planet, and profit.

The SDGs we can contribute to the most are:

  • Climate action
  • Responsible consumption and production
  • Affordable and clean energy
  • Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
  • Decent work and economic growth
  • Gender equality

More about the UN Global Compact

Climate action

We want to play an active role in reducing the environmental footprint of the solutions we offer. Our ambition is to provide solutions with a near-zero carbon footprint. We are also reducing the CO2 footprint of our own offices and manufacturing sites by using more efficient lighting systems and moving to renewable energy. We are developing a long-term strategy to contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions and to help meet the Paris Agreement target. Our ambitious target is to reduce 55% GHG emissions (CO2eq) in 2030.

Responsible consumption and production

We strive to provide our customers with clear environmental and CO2 performance product information by performing life cycle assessments on our products. In turn we enable homeowners to reduce their own carbon footprint by choosing innovative indoor climate solutions. We can influence the responsible production and consumption of our products, so they are used efficiently and disposed of responsibly. This includes using recyclable materials at the design and production stages, and using recycling and take-back schemes at the end of products’ lives. At all our sites we have active waste management to ensure that we recycle all our waste streams in a smart and responsible way.

Affordable and clean energy

Access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy is crucial for economic development and environmental sustainability. We are moving toward energy efficient systems, operations and products – hybrid heating systems and heat pumps in turn enable end-consumers to reduce their carbon emissions as well. We have projects for hydrogen-ready boilers in the Netherlands and the UK. Our Landfill to Gas offsetting project in Turkey is a Gold Standard Global Energy project focusing on capturing waste-related methane and other greenhouse gases and turning these substances into clean energy.

Industry, innovation, and infrastructure

Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and fostering innovation are cornerstones of sustainable growth. Our operating model is focused on innovation and leadership in the energy transition, as we move towards heat pumps, hybrids, hydrogen boilers and other new technologies. We aim to invest in new technologies, future-ready manufacturing sites and energy efficiency improvements across our operations to deliver innovation and sustainable growth.

Decent work and economic growth

Promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all ensures that everyone benefits from economic advancements. We aim to keep our company sustainable for the long term, to ensure ongoing economic growth and create diverse employment opportunities for our communities. We strive to become an Employer of Choice, promoting strong company values and fostering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace. Workplace safety is important to us: our goal is zero safety incidents in the workplace.

Gender equality

We believe diversity and inclusion in their broadest sense are key to our success. Increased diversity of gender, cultures, nationalities, views, and more benefit the quality of our decision-making and business operations. An inclusive approach also ensures we can attract and retain the best talents in society – and so perform better as a company.

Supporting installers and end-users

Our connected, intelligent, easy-to-use tools and services open a world of value for customers and installers, offering energy efficiency and excellent experiences.

Product connectivity and the Internet of Things (IoT) are opening doors to new services and customer experiences. Connected thermostats, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance make installation easy, benefiting installers at the commissioning or servicing stage. And they give end-users control over their comfort.

Training and helping installers adapt to the new technologies and possibilities of the clean energy future – such as heat pumps and hybrids – will be essential to the success of the energy transition. BDR Thermea is committed to helping them through our training centres across Europe, as well as through tools such as our commissioning wizard app.

Today’s end-users want to play their part in the energy transition, so BDR Thermea actively helps them move from confused to confident. Whether in residential or commercial settings, we offer information, advice, and technical support for sustainable technologies.

Meet our innovations

Our customers’ needs drive our innovations. We create practical, efficient and reliable products and services that work for customers. That’s how we ensure comfort and peace of mind.
